Richard House Children’s Hospice
Without our donors we cannot provide the clinical care, respite and opportunities to make memories to over 300 seriously ill children and their families across London.
Children like Calvin, who has been coming to Richard House since he was a baby.
Now 12, Calvin has complex health needs and a life-limiting illness and is dependent on numerous medications and equipment. His mum, Maureen, has always desperately wanted Calvin to gain his independence and live his life to the full like other children. Maureen told us how Richard House has helped him develop a greater sense of independence, and he has the opportunity to live a full life.
Calvin is always talking about getting involved in activities such as bowling and football at the hospice and he always talks about the time he watched the world cup at Richard House and England were winning. When Calvin stays in respite his mums knows he is safe and being well looked after.
Respite gives Maureen the time to catch up on much needed rest as she is constantly caring for Calvin. About the hospice, she said “Richard House has helped me, legally emotionally, provided moral support and more, and that is only half of some of the support they have shown me alone, let alone my son Calvin. His sibling has grown up in the siblings groups too and this has helped a lot in terms of their understanding, it’s very important and much needed.”
